We drove there, via Simplon which is the most beautifully stunning drive over the mountain tops, which was nice because as soon as we hit the Italian autostrada, it was chaos. I'm not going to insult any Italian readers but the driving in Italy is nothing short of crazy!
We arrived at around 6.30pm, parked our car then trekked through the city looking for the hotel. We were used to walking miles with luggage from our travelling in the winter so it wasn't such a long walk. We had a beautiful canal view room in the Hotel Alla Fava which is between Rialto Bridge and Saint Marks Square, I could have spend the whole time watching the boats from our room!
On the Saturday, we got up early and headed out to explore. We're not into the typical touristy things, and much prefer to just walk around and take it all in!
It had a really cool, laid back vibe and is an amazing city for people watching!
It was HOT. Like crazy hot, and these drinks saved us! Every little corner shop and souvenir shop have them and they are so yummy, I had apricot and Tim had lemon! We took a break and sat on some steps leading down to the water to have our drinks when a Japanese tourist went past on a Gondola, taking photos of us and telling us we were beautiful!
If you're planning a visit to Venice, take some trainers and don't use a map, its so rewarding to find beautiful little streets and canals off of the tourist path, its the perfect place to get lost in!
And of course we found a fun bar with a great atmosphere to watch the game in!
This is a photo from a water taxi we took on our way back to the car on Sunday, we were sad to leave but had a great time and will definitely come back in the near future!
Thank you for reading! Yasmin x
