Adding Pops of Colour!

When we moved into our apartment, we already had the furniture and a few pieces we picked up on our travels but due to said travels we couldn't afford to splash out right away on the little bits and pieces to finish off each room. The furniture we already had was very neutral which was good as it allowed us to create different colour schemes in each room, however, until we had found the missing pieces, it left the apartment feeling, not quite us. 
Slowly but surely we are filling in the blanks; we recently bought an amazing navajo style rug and decided to have it in the living room, a room which was already primarily black and red so bringing in some extra colour really brightened the room up. 
I decided to create a small garland using some of the colours from the rug to show you guys how easy it is to add pops of colour for little to no cost! 

All I needed for this DIY was a selection of felt, some embroidery thread, a needle and a pair of scissors! 

In keeping with the navajo style, I cut my felt into different sized triangles and placed them in the order I thought worked best.
A garland is such a simple and easy way to get some colour into a room or to customise a piece of furniture, you could use any shape, any fabric and could also use stuffing to give it a 3 dimensional look! 

I attached the shapes by creating small loops between each shape, you could thread them all on the same piece of thread or string but I prefer a more discreet binding. 

And once you're done, all you have to do is find a cute place to hang it! 

Its so simple to do and not only is it cheaper than a store bought decoration, its more special as you've made it yourself! 
This would be such a cute little decoration for a babies room or make a long one to hang down the side of a door!

Adventures in Scrap Fabric (part 1)

As mentioned in a previous post, I had planned something that was reliant on the weather, now, the weather has gone back to grey and rainy, urgh. If the weather doesn't improve then maybe I'll just tell you but until then I feel a new feature coming on! 

For those of you who liked WWWD? (here & here) then boy are you in for a treat! We had a major spruce up last weekend and since then I've been enjoying keeping everything tidy and clean, but as I am unable to throw anything away, this is kinda difficult for me. 

I have a ton of scrap fabric pieces, so I figured this week I will do a load of DIYs to get rid of them! Welcome to the first (and hopefully not the last, in my head its a really cool idea so please comment below if I am wrong!) 

Lets get started! 

Being unable to throw anything away means I am often left with jars and bottles that I have big plans for but never the time to complete them! Funnily enough I was able to throw away the lid for this jar *face palm*

So, we're going to make a string jar holder thing! Yay! Firstly check that your ball of string or twine or whatever fits in your little jar.

Welcoming my first piece of scrap fabric! This was a test screen print and was never used due to its imperfections (which I like, never let society tell you your screen prints have to be perfect!) Annoyingly this wasn't a square piece but I wanted to use it due to the print, which means I am still left with scraplets from this scrap piece.

Anyhoo, cut the fabric into a square and cut a small hole in the centre for the string to poke out of!

The last thing to do is to pop the fabric on the top of the jar and fasten around! 

This is so easy and cute I could just cry, or laugh at how excitable this makes me! I hope you enjoyed this first episode of 'Adventures in Scrap Fabric', I promise the next one will be a whole lot less crazy ramblings and more serious blogging/DIYing!

Swiss Cow DIY

Hello! I'm finally back into the swing of things and have got a super cute little DIY for you! Its no secret that I LOVE Swiss cows, so I thought I'd make a little hanging decorative cow! 

What you will need:

Felt - in assorted colours 

Scissors

Sewing Kit

Ribbon

Craft glue

Glue brush

Stuffing - I used little polystyrene balls but you can use wadding or filler or scrap fabric

You want to start by cutting two cow head shapes out of the felt colour that you are using for the cows head, I chose brown. The easiest way to get these symmetrical is to make a template, fold the felt in half and pin it to the felt then cut around it.

I probably shouldn't have sped straight ahead to the flowers but I was excited about adding the colour! 

I added some small strips of leather cord for the eyelashes!

The only not so fun part of this DIY is the mess that comes off the felt when you cut it! 

After you have decorated the cows face, take your ribbon and glue it on the back.

Take the other cow head shape, place it on the back of your decorated side, covering where the ribbon has been glued.

Sew together the two pieces.

Leave a small opening at the end to insert your filling and then sew up the remainder.

Bar Cart Styling

Hello all! Today I'm going to share with you one of my favourite pieces of furniture so far, I've had a minor obsession with bar carts since forever and when I saw this little beauty I couldn't resist! 
I renovated it using the same process as I did here!
We collected a lot of great stuff from a recent trip to China and Japan and really wanted to display them therefore our bar cart doesn't showcase a killer collection of spirits but the top shelf is dedicated to our favourite souvenirs!

The bottom shelf houses my favourite vintage beer mugs, red wine glasses, white wine glasses, tumblers for water and a selection of wine. 

I'm pretty happy with our more reserved bar cart, but I wouldn't say no to a fully stocked drinks globe!
