Easy Headband DIY!

Happy Friday everyone!!
Most of my craft ideas stem from my love of making something new out of something old or just making something old a little bit prettier! I have this weird obsession with black vest tops, the ones with the thin straps that you get at h&m, they are like my safety net to wear under jumpers, with high waisted jeans etc, anyway, it would be an understatement to say I have a couple of these tops kicking about, one of which had failed me and the strap had broken (it wasn't from h&m, thats what happens when you break the routine!!) So I wasn't really sure what to do about it, I didn't feel like sewing it back on as it had already betrayed me, so i decided to make something new out of it as the stretchy jersey material is really versatile and great to work with.
In the Summer months, my usual hair state is up in a VERY messy bun with some kind of headscarf or bandana tied around it; I'm kind of over bandanas now, I think I exhausted them as a teenager, going through that rock scene phase and I am seriously obsessed with daisies at the moment so I figured, hey, Yasmin, you've got the skills, you go make your own headband girlfriend! (The voice in my head is kind of sassy and motivational!)
I recently got an exciting little craft delivery from Bastelfprofi.ch .. did I mention that already?! And I treated myself to some fabric paints, so I have them a whirl!
So to make this headband you need an old tshirt or some jersey fabric, fabric paints, scissors and a little sewing kit - OMG I just thought, this would be super cute to make a range of headbands for a baby girl! GIA! (Gift Idea Alert!)

So I began to paint my little flowers, it was pretty relaxing and I did it whilst watching re-runs of 'Mock the Week' which was a nice little evening activity!

When you've got a substantial part of your fabric painted, cut one edge with a slight curve, as shown above.

Fold the strip of fabric over and cut the excess fabric to the same curve as shown below.

Fold the headband around and join the two ends together, pin them to keep it in place and then sew.

Next, take a strip of excess fabric and wrap it around the two ends you have just sewn together.

Sew this part together on the underside of the headband.

This leaves the headband looking a lot tidier and gives it a bit more strength!

And then pop it on your head! I love this so much I'm definitely going to make more!
I hope you have fun making this headband!

Thanks for reading! Yasmin x
