Handbag roll DIY

So I didn't know what to call it, the title makes it sound like a leathery cake but it was better than the original "Multi-purpose roll, purse, bag for stuff"!
I am a hoarder, a magpie, a bag lady etc etc, and I do not travel light! I do a last minute run around before I leave the house and shove things in my bag that I feel I need such as spare necklaces, keepsakes, lucky charms, biscuits, and anything else that takes my fancy. But the problem with having it all floating around inside your bag is that it can get scratched, my phone being a victim of some handbag bullying with the scratches on the screen becoming a design feature.
So I have made a handy little pouchy roll thing and I would love to share it with you!

To begin, you need the usual suspects: Scissors, cotton, needles, pins, threader, some ribbon or string, a button and some fabric. The usual thing would be to give you a measurement for the required fabric but hey, I'm already telling you what to do, I'll give you a little freedom! I used a square shaped but its up to you how you're going to utilise this so make it as big or as little as you like!

Also, feel free to iron your fabric, like I didn't!

Fold the fabric in half and sew along the top as shown above, this will create a 'tube' of fabric (see below)

The lesser spotted fabric tube!

Next, sew your ribbon or string onto the outside of one end of the tube, I then covered up the end of the string with a button to make it look neater, you could use a bead, brooch or embroidered patch.

One end should look like this! Andddd... thats it! Now I will show you how to use this crazy contraption...

1. Sunglasses

Who wants scratched sunglasses? Not me! Who loses their sunglasses cases? Me!
Pop the glasses in one end of the tube and wrap the string around, which will cause the excess fabric at either end to create a protective flap so they don't fall out!

ta dah!

2. Loose change, jewellery etc

Anything loose, rattling around in your bag such as change, jewellery, keys, hair clips etc! Pop all the loose stuff in one end of the tube and fold twice upwards (see below) and finish off by securing with your ribbon into a neat little bundle!

I think you get the jist now, this is ridiculously useful and you need it in your life! Make one and keep it in your bag just in case as it rolls up to a tiny tiny fabric burrito when its not being crazy useful!

Have fun crafting and thank you for reading! Yasmin x
