Hi Guys!
I've got a fun weekend DIY for you today. Bib necklaces are everywhere at the moment, and, as they are FULL of beautiful beads and other glittery things, they can tend to be a bit pricey, wellll... *drum roll* I am going to show you how to make your own!!
I made this necklace out of supplies I had at home as I really wanted to show how easy it was and free!
So, the bits and bobs I'm using are:
Buttons: I have a slightly crazy obsession with buttons so I have a lot in my sewing box! But you can just go around stealing the spares off shirts or off old clothing etc
Beads: These were from a bracelet that snapped last week. (sad face)
Sturdy Fabric: I used a cuff from an old shirt, cut the cuff off and separate the fabric, one side will be enforced with a stiffer mesh and you can use that! If I were to buy a fabric for this I would use felt or some suede but this fabric worked perfectly.
Chain: Use an old necklace chain that has lost its pendant or use some ribbon!
Sewing accessories: I'm talking needles, cotton, scissors, needle threaders, seam rippers etc etc
So first, I cut my fabric to the size and shape I wanted and then laid the beads and buttons on it, making a mental plan and checking that everything I wanted in it would fit.
Get started!
I sewed on my buttons first and then filled in the gaps with some pretty pearl beads. When i was happy with it i cut the excess fabric away, including little bits in-between the buttons around the edge - be careful you don't snip any threads!
Okay so its time to bring in the chain! As I was using an old necklace chain I cut it in half so I could easily attach it to each side of my necklace. If you use ribbon, cut two equal lengths and make sure you have it long enough to tie it around your next (a bow would look so cute, especially if you have your hair up!) Anyhoo, I put the chain around my neck and held the bib part up to my neck where I wanted it to sit, i needed to cut a little extra off my chain and then used the last link on each side to sew it throw the holes of the buttons on the two top corners.
And I present to you, a picture of my goofy self modelling it!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I'd love to see your finished necklaces!
Thanks for reading! Yasmin x
